Back pain
Causes and symptoms
Back pain is an extremely common medical problem but is rarely the result of serious injury or disease. Most back pain occurs due to minor injury or stress to the joints of the spine and tension through the muscles and connective tissues of the back. Many back issues are related to sedentary lifestyle, poor posture, sporting injuries, strains from lifting or bending and extra load during pregnancy. You may experience some referral of pain into the buttocks or legs.
Treatment
Osteopathic treatment of back pain focuses on restoring function to poorly moving spinal joints, as well as reducing muscle tension and increasing muscle strength resulting in improved movement, reduced pain and deceased nerve irritation. If our Osteopaths think that your back pain requires further investigation they may refer you for x-ray or send you to a GP or sports physician for further testing.
