Osteopathic treatment is extremely safe, gentle and effective during pregnancy. Whilst pregnant, your body is constantly shifting and adapting to accommodate your growing baby. As your posture changes and is placed under more load, aches and pains can result. Your body releases hormones during pregnancy that relax the connective tissues to prepare for delivery meaning that you have less support and are more prone to injury. |
The good news is that at Fairfield Osteopathic Clinic we understand how to help your body to adjust to the changes that are occurring allowing you to manage your symptoms effectively, prepare your body for birth and minimise issues post birth. Some of the common problems we see during pregnancy include low back pain, pelvic pain and instability, upper back, neck and shoulder pain, headaches, reflux and sciatica, digestive disturbance and breathing difficulties
Treatment
Our clinic is equipped with “belly pillows” allowing you to lie comfortably on your stomach during your treatment. We can also assist with pelvic support belts where required and strengthening exercises for your low back and pelvic floor to help keep your body strong and ensure a speedy recover after birth.
Pre-conception care
Some of our patients choose to visit us prior to becoming pregnant to help reduce the effects of any pre-existing injuries in preparation for the many musculo-skeletal changes during pregnancy and then continue care throughout their pregnancy.
Post-natal care
Osteopathic treatment post-birth can help to aid your recovery and reduce the risk of any lasting dysfunction within your body. Many women find that if they don’t resolve any physical problems between pregnancies their symptoms may be exacerbated with subsequent pregnancies. Once your baby arrives strains can occur from activities such as; lifting and carrying your baby, breast feeding and pushing a pram. This can lead to upper back and neck pain, headaches, low back pain and repetitive strain injuries of the hands, wrists and elbows.
