The Practitioners of Fairfield Osteopathy

FAIRFIELD OSTEOPATHY SERVING THE COMMUNITY FOR 20 YEARS

Fairfield Osteopathic Clinic has been a mainstay of the health community in Melbourne’s inner northern suburbs for nearly 20 years. What began as a two-person clinic near Fairfield station has grown into a multidisciplinary practice in North Fairfield Village, now featuring eight practitioners.

As owners, Angie Bruce and Mark Cooper have lived and worked in this community for 12 years. During this time, they have established a robust referral network and are incredibly proud of the connections they have built with local health professionals, small businesses, and community organisations.

Fairfield Osteopathic Clinic looks forward to serving Fairfield and the surrounding suburbs for many years to come.

THE OSTEOPATHS

REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPISTS

DR ANGIE BRUCE, OSTEOPATH

Angie is available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and alternate Saturdays

Angie— Registered Osteopath B.App.Sc (Human BioSciences), M.Ost. Osteopathy Australia Member. An Osteopathy Australia titled Pain Management Osteopath, with 19 years of clinical experience.

She focuses on helping people recover from injury and surgery, manage persistent pain, and improve long-term function by integrating rehabilitation into everyday activities. A strong emphasis is placed on helping you understand why you have pain, why now, and how to prevent it returning.

Angie works with children, adults and older clients, combining thorough assessment, hands-on treatment and functional rehabilitation. She also uses Pilates and other self-management strategies to improve body awareness and confidence with movement.

She has a special clinical interest in peripheral nerve entrapment and compression syndromes, and regularly teaches and updates her skills through professional education and clinical teaching roles.

Titled Osteopaths have completed extensive further study and proven work experience in their field and have been independently assessed to meet the required standard.

Mark is available Monday to Friday.

DR MARK COOPER, OSTEOPATH

Mark — Registered Osteopath B.App.Sc (Human BioSciences), M.Ost. Osteopathy Australia Member. Mark also has a B.Sc. (Biochemistry).

With 19 years in clinical practice, Mark treats everything from garden variety back pain to complex persistent pain conditions. He brings a wide range of hands-on techniques to the table, tailoring his approach to each patient, and making sure you actually understand what's going on with your body, not just treating it.

Mark works with you on rehabilitation, sporting injuries and chronic pain, and also offers trigger point dry needling. He's a skilled diagnostician who believes an informed patient is a better patient.

A Melbourne boy originally, Mark studied Biochemistry at Melbourne University before heading to Sydney to complete his Osteopathy Masters at UWS. After 15 years living and working interstate, he came home to Melbourne to raise his family. He also spent many years supervising and teaching Osteopathy students at Victoria University, something he remains passionate about.

Off the clock, Mark loves tennis, most forms of exercise, and is an unashamed Hawks tragic.

Callan is available Monday and Friday.

DR CALLAN REID, OSTEOPATH

Registered Osteopath B.Sc (Clinical Sci), M.H.Sc (Osteopathy), Adv. Dip (Myotherapy). Osteopathy Australia Member.

Callan brings a rare depth of experience to the clinic, ten years of study across Myotherapy and Osteopathy, plus hands-on work across a variety of clinical settings including aged care. He treats everything from acute sporting injuries and workplace postural strains to longer-standing conditions like tendon pain, always looking at how the whole body is coping, not just the sore bit.

His interest in health was sparked watching his mother find relief from chronic migraines through massage, and he's been hooked ever since. That early passion grew into a serious commitment to science, neuroscience, hands-on technique and rehabilitation. He's also drawn to one of Osteopathy's core ideas: that the body wants to heal itself, and a good therapist simply helps clear the path.

Callan graduated with his Myotherapy Diploma in 2007 and went on to complete his Osteopathy Masters at Victoria University in 2017. He's taught at Holmesglen TAFE and Endeavour College, training the next generation of Myotherapists, and currently also works in aged care, helping residents stay mobile and maintain quality of life.

Outside the clinic, Callan is navigating the beautiful chaos of new fatherhood, walking his dog along Darebin Creek, and tending to his garden.

Paula is available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

DR PAULA HENDERSON, OSTEOPATH

Registered Osteopath B.App.Sc (Osteopathy). Osteopathy Australia Member.

With nearly 30 years in practice, Paula brings a depth of experience that's hard to match. She's well versed in back pain and headaches, but it's her work with more complex conditions where she really shines — digestive disorders like IBS, hormonal disturbances, and recovery from physical and emotional trauma. She understands how the musculoskeletal system and organs influence each other, and brings that whole-picture thinking to every diagnosis and treatment.

Paula has post-graduate training in biodynamics — a gentle approach suitable for all ages — and has worked as part of a team managing complex paediatric cases. She's also a respected educator, having lectured full-time in the Osteopathy program at RMIT for over five years, and she continues to mentor student and graduate Osteopaths through study groups.

The fact that she receives frequent referrals from other osteopaths and health professionals says plenty.

DR LUCY BARTLETT-WYNNE, OSTEOPATH

Registered Osteopath BSc (Osteopathy), MSc (Osteopathy), BA (Anthropology & Literature). Qualified Yoga Instructor. Osteopathy Australia Member.

Lucy treats people across every stage of life, and brings a genuinely warm, inclusive and trauma-informed approach to her work. She believes healing isn't purely physical, understanding your condition is often just as important as the hands-on treatment, and she'll make sure you leave feeling heard, not just treated.

She has a particular passion for two areas. The first is paediatrics, from newborns through to adolescents, Lucy works with families on everything from feeding and digestion to developmental milestones and growth concerns. She collaborates closely with GPs, maternal health nurses, paediatric dentists, OTs and lactation consultants, and if she can't help, she'll find someone who can.

The second is women's health. Lucy supports women through hormonal challenges, endometriosis, hypermobility, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, pelvic pain and the musculoskeletal changes that come with menopause, combining hands-on treatment with education and genuine advocacy.

Her additional training includes dry needling, functional cupping, primitive reflexes, and osteopathy in the cranial field.

Lucy is available Monday, Thursday and Friday.

DR SARAH YOUNG, OSTEOPATH

Registered Osteopath B.Health Sc/B.App.Sc (Osteopathy), RMIT University (with Distinction). Osteopathy Australia Member.

Sarah's approach is straightforward and practical, manual therapy, lifestyle advice, targeted rehabilitation, and making sure you actually understand your pain. Her own active lifestyle means she's well placed to guide you on whole-body movement for long-term health.

Her empathic nature has drawn her into aged care, where she works part-time helping older people stay living at home, advising on home care packages, managing age-related conditions, and conducting mobility assessments.

A lifelong field hockey player, Sarah is also a certified sports trainer and currently manages the senior women's premier league side at Greensborough Hockey Club, where she's also a coach and committee member.

When she's not doing all of the above, she's walking her dog, learning something new, or spending time with her family.

Sarah is available Saturday.

ROSALYN GILFILLAN, REMEDIAL
MASSAGE THERAPIST

Remedial Massage Therapist Massage & Myotherapy Australia Member. Practising since 2014.

Ros has spent most of her decade-plus career right here in Fairfield, and her calm, compassionate presence is something clients consistently remark on. You'll leave feeling nourished, reassured, and a little more human.

She treats a wide range, including headaches, neck and back pain, sports massage, stress and anxiety responses, complex degenerative conditions, and pregnancy massage (with acupressure). Cupping is also on offer. She has a particular interest in women's health — specifically the musculoskeletal impact of hormonal changes across PMS, PCOS, endometriosis, perimenopause and menopause.

Since 2021, Ros has been deepening her practice through integrative bodywork — drawing on eastern philosophies, life coaching and applied kinesiology. It's evolved her work into something more intuitive, with a genuine focus on the whole human experience, not just the presenting complaint.

Her path to massage was a natural one — after 25 years as a pattern maker in fashion, she instinctively used bodywork to support her son's recovery as an elite adolescent athlete. A former ballet dancer of 15 years, she still walks the talk with gym, yoga, cycling and twice-daily dog walks.

Ros is available for late appointments Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

New to osteopathy?

If you’ve never seen an osteopath before, your first appointment with Fairfield Osteopathic Clinic will focus on understanding what’s really contributing to your problem.

We take a thorough history, assess how you move, listen to how and what you are experiencing, then discuss treatment options using plain language — no jargon, no mystery. You'll leave your first appointment with a clear picture of what's going on, what we think will help, and what to expect next.

Our job is simple: help you get better,
move freely, and not need us anymore.

  • You don't need a referral to see an osteopath, remedial massage therapist, or acupuncturist. However, if you are seeing us under a "Chronic Disease Management Plan or Enhanced Primary Care Plan" through Medicare, your GP practice must provide an appropriate referral.

  • Medicare rebates are only available when referred through the "Chronic Disease Management Plan or Enhanced Primary Care Plan," which your GP practice arranges. The current Medicare rebate for these services is $61.80 and is only available when seeing an osteopath.

Appointments are not Bulk Billed at our practice. All osteopathic appointments involve an out-of-pocket expense.

  • Our practitioners are registered with most major health funds. If your private health insurance level allows, you can claim your rebate at the time of your appointment through our HICAPS terminal. Alternatively, we can provide paid invoices, which you may use to claim manually through your health insurer's website patient portal.

  • Every patient's case is different. For the most part practitioners will only need to see you a handful of times to get you back up and running (so to speak). Your practitioner will discuss timeframes and prognosis with you.

  • Osteopathy is one of the longest standing manual therapy professions. Your University qualified practitioners are skilled at performing a thorough case history, examination, hands on treatment, as well as providing exercise and rehabilitation advice. In short, osteopathy is right for most people. We take into account every person's cultural background, religious beliefs, personal preferences as treating practitioners. However, hands on examination and treatment techniques are necessary to address most presenting complaints.

  • We treat people across the lifespan. From babies to the elderly, everyone can benefit from osteopathy.

Techniques will vary depending on age and the physical presentation.

  • Generally, it is a good idea to wear loose-fitting clothing to osteopathic appointments. We will often require you to remove garments, down to your underwear, so we can examine and treat you appropriately. Gowns are provided for modesty purposes but are open at the back. Towels are also used for draping purposes when lying on the treatment tables.

  • Bring along all medical imaging results or reports, as well as any other medical reports from specialists that are relevant to your presenting complaint.

  • Osteopathy is grounded in biomedical science and focuses on the muscular and nervous systems — assessing how the structure of the body affects its function. If your pelvis is influencing the way you move, we're interested in that, not just the place that hurts. Treatment is shaped by the patient as much as the condition, drawing on hands-on techniques, exercise and postural advice, always informed by the best available research evidence.
